Champagne powder, steep slopes, runs through the woods… In winter sports paradise USA, everyone gets their money's worth. Whether on one board or two, beginner or expert – pure winter fun is guaranteed on this ski holiday.
Colorado:
The largest and most well-known ski areas in North America are found in Colorado. Skiing at 4,000 m above sea level – no problem in Colorado. With 300 days of sun per year and an average snowfall of over 8.5 m, skiing becomes a true experience. Thanks to the large ski areas and fast lifts, waiting times at the lifts is short or there is hardly any crowding on the slopes.
California:
When thinking of California, one thinks more of sun, beach, and surfboard and less about mountains, snow, and winter fun. But that is just what one can find on Mammouth Mountain and on Lake Tahoe. The region around Lake Tahoe counts among the most popular winter sports areas in the USA and even offers the highest concentration of ski and snowboard resorts in all of North America. The breath-taking Sierra Nevada Mountains, the most snow-rich area in the USA with an average annual snowfall of 10 m, as well as 250 days of sun, offer a spectacular backdrop for an absolute top-class winter experience.

American cuisine is famous for grilled beef. In no other land will meat lovers get their money's worth quite like this. Whether filet mignon, New York steak, T-bone steak, burger, etc., you can eat a different cut of meat every day. Fish and seafood are also offered in many places. A highlight here is the Maine lobster, which everyone should have at least once. But the USA has even more to offer: due to the immigrants from all countries of the world, countless restaurants that specialise in ethnic foods can be found. For a quick bite, you can also find a fast food chain on nearly every slip road.
The food culture, however, seriously differentiates itself from what we're used to. Only seldom is it possible to reserve a table in a restaurant; rather, you wait in a vestibule or at the bar until the next table is free. As waiters only earn a very low base wage, they rely on tips from their guests. For that reason, they are very friendly and you will be served in a very courteous manner – this also comes with the expectation of an approx. 20 % tip.
In the USA, a lot of coffee, soft drinks, beer and wine are consumed. There are many small local breweries, which produce great beer. American wine is also known for its excellent taste. |
