Skiing Alpe d'Huez – legendary mountains - not just for the Tour de France!

Located in a picturesque setting, Alpe d'Huez has now become the most famous stage of the Tour de France. But its ski area is also one of the best in the Alps: sunny runs with high snow security, unlimited deep snow thrills and awesome snow parks. The family-friendly resort of Vaujany, at a height of 1,250 m, is a great introduction to the area. One of the Alps' most modern gondolas brings you up to 2,800 m in only a few minutes. What was once a small mountain village in the middle of untouched nature now successfully combines the traditional and the contemporary. Alpe d'Huez – legendary mountains - not just for the Tour de France!

This resort not only hosts a stage of the annual Tour de France, it was also one of the sites for the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble. Alpe d'Huez lies at an altitude of 1,860 m, below the Grand Rousses-Massivs, and offers a spellbinding panorama and the perfect connection to the ski area. Shopping centres with cafes, bars and countless small shops invite you to explore them. The mountain village Vaujany, on the other side of the Petites Rousses ridge, does things a little differently: modern escalators connect the various levels, and the large spa and adventure pool with its exciting slide is surely unique in the French Alps.

The pistes in the skiing area of Alpe d'Huez are mainly on the south/southwest side of the mountain, which guarantees a lot of sunshine. The 252 kilometres of piste and the 82 lifts between the altitudes of 1,120 m and 3,330 m are very snow sure: 80% of the pistes lie above 1,800 m! The most spectacular piste, the black "Sarenne", starts at the Sarenne Glacier and runs through a tunnel to the face of the Pic Blanc, and from there steeply down into the valley. At 16 km, this is one of the longest pistes in Europe! Also just for the advanced is the 3 km long, deep-black steep descent "Tunnel" from Pic Blanc. Beginners will find perfect practice slopes on the outskirts of Alpe d'Huez and Vaujany. Snowboarders are looked after marvellously here as well: The funpark at the Sarenne Glacier is recommended for pros only, while two further funparks are comparitively easier. The lift pass, which is included in the holiday price, is valid for two days in Les 2 Alpes (220 km), as well as one day in Serre-Chavalier (250 km), Sestrière (400 km) and Puy St. Vincent (67 km) respectively. This means you have a selection of more than 1,200 kilometres of piste! The "Visalp" lift pass also entitles you to the free use of the Vaujany and Alpe d'Huez pools and the ice rink.
